Using your Cisco Phone

Modified on Tue, 8 Jul at 2:25 PM

Kenton City Schools uses Cisco phones for all phone calls in the district. The phones are able to call 9-1-1 without any prefix digits. When 9-1-1 is called, the phone automatically transmits the phone's pre-assigned location data. This is why it is critical that a phone isn't unplugged or removed from a room.

Dialing Inside the District

Lifting the handset and dialing a user's 4-digit extension will call the user.

Dialing Outside the District

Calling a number outside the district will require a prefix of the number "8" before dialing the number. For instance, 84196730775.

Calling 9-1-1

Federal law requires that 9-1-1 be able to be dialed without any prefix. The law also requires that a dispatchable location be assigned to the device so if a 9-1-1 call originates from the phone, dispatchers can dispatch help to that specific room.

Voicemail

All phone users have a voicemail box. By default, voicemails are emailed to you. To set your greeting or manage your voicemail settings, push the voicemail button and enter your pin. If you haven't setup your voicemail yet, your pin is 1234. If you need your pin reset, please open helpdesk.

Daytime Classroom Behavior

During school hours, your phone will only ring if a call is originating from inside the district. External calls will be sent to your voicemail. Calls transferred to your phone will ring, but letting them ring will send them to voicemail.

A guide for the operation of the phone is available from Cisco here.
